‘MEETING OF NATIONS’ FOCUSES ON EXPANDING INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES

The sixth annual “Meeting of Nations 2002,” is scheduled for Thursday, April 11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Rotunda Room at the Science and Technology Part at the University of New Mexico. The conference will feature Alan Turley, head of the Economic Development International Business Center in Warrington, England.

The event is sponsored by the International Trade Council of New Mexico, the Science and Technology Park at UNM, the New Mexico Council of International Trade and the Robert O. Anderson Schools of Management.

The conference is designed to assist New Mexico businesses with networking and to develop business contacts with representatives from around the world. The conference provides the opportunity for businesses to showcase their products and services, and to further identify and explore mutually beneficial opportunities for their businesses, including trading, business advice and support, and facilitating inward investment.

“The meeting is not a presentation or a day of speeches, but rather, a coming together of New Mexico businesses and international representatives,” said Michael Laverty, vice president of the International Trade Council. “The Meeting of Nations brings top representatives from all the continents to New Mexico so that, for one day a year, we can present our businesses to the world. Creating a dialogue with these representatives establishes a long-lasting rapport that is the initial step in doing business internationally.”

Participating countries include Australia, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, England, Germany, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Panama, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland and Taiwan.

“Everyone interacts with each other to exchange ideas on how our products and services have a great market throughout the world. Where else can a small business owner have lunch with a Consul General from Europe, or spend an afternoon conversing with a trade representative from Asia? We have a proud and wonderful state. The Meeting of Nations is a win-win event for us to show the world, for a day, all our innovations, our technological advances, and our potential for resilient growth.”

Online registration is available at nmcofit@unm.edu. The registration fee is $75. For more information contact Michael Laverty at (505) 272-7340, Leonel Chavez (505) 768-3256 or Mary Parra-Alonso at (505) 298-3368.
