GONZALES TO BE HONORED AT UNM ARCHITECTURE AND PLANNING CONVOCATION
Moises
Gonzales, a graduate of the University of New Mexico Community and Regional
Planning Program, is being honored as the Distinguished Alum at the School of
Architecture and Planning convocation on Saturday, May 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the
KiMo Theatre.
Gonzales, currently assistant planning director for Rio Arriba County, works
as a project planner to develop and implement an agricultural conservation land
use policy to preserve the integrity of Rio Arriba's agricultural land and traditional
communities. Much of his work is dedicated to developing land use strategies
to maintain rural traditional Hispanic villages, acequias and traditional agriculture.
In October, 2000, Rio Arriba County was awarded the Sheldon D. Gerber Award
for Excellence in Environmental Planning by the Western Resource Planning Association
for implementation of its Agricultural Conservation policies.
