May 6, 2002 UNM ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS PRESENT FINAL PROJECTS Masters' students in the University of New Mexico School of Architecture
and Planning present their final projects Monday through Wednesday, May
6-8 in rooms 117, 118 and 120 in the architecture building located on
Stanford and Central SE. Some of the project concepts include: Navajo Code Talkers Memorial, Bilingual
Border School, Española Valley Heritage Center, Conflict Resolution
Conference Center, Healing Retreat, Islamic Cultural Center, and a project
for the downtown Albuquerque art district. "Each proposed plan is in response to an actual design project,"
says Gabriella Gutierrez, associate dean of the School of Architecture
and Planning. Those evaluating the project include a panel of three UNM architecture
and planning faculty selected by the student and two guest reviewers.
This year, the reviewers are two Houston-area architects who have classroom
experience. The reviews take place every hour on the hour and include an explanation of the project by the graduating student as well as questions from the reviewers. # # #
