HOBBS NATIVE INSTALLED AS KAPPA KAPPA GAMMA PRESIDENT

Hobbs native Adrienne Betzen, a creative writing student at the University of New Mexico, became president of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority this semester.

Betzen, daughter of Diedra and Ray Betzen, graduated from Hobbs High School in 1998. "My journey has only just begun, but I am very much excited to take on everything that comes my way during my presidency. I have a great group of officers to work with and I think this year is going to be amazing," says Betzen. As president of Kappa Kappa Gamma, Betzen will oversee the other officers and their activities. She will also conduct chapter meetings as well as attend neighborhood community meetings.

Betzen is also an active participant in UNM Cheerleading. Recruiting students to UNM is an important part of Betzen's activities. She is a member Lobo Ambassadors, a recruitment program for the UNM Lobo football team and Greek Ambassadors, a recruitment program for high school students.

Betzen also volunteers for Trailblazers, a service organization, and attends both the Greek Honor Society called Order of Omega and Golden Key Honor Society. She participates in at least one event per month for each organization.

"Even now having all of these activities, it is still a little stressful. I put them in priorities and go from there," says Betzen. Despite her many activities, Betzen stresses, "school does come first in every activity."

Betzen was able to find her niche at UNM. She says, "UNM is a very good school and the people are very accepting." She will graduate from UNM in May 2003 and plans to begin a career in publishing.
