UNM ECONOMICS STUDENTS RECEIVE GRADUATE AWARDS
Maurice Moffett and Pallab Mozumder, two University of New Mexico economics
students, have been selected to receive graduate awards during the departments
convocation on Saturday, May 12, at 11:30 a.m. in the Economics Courtyard on
main campus.
Moffet, a doctoral student from Rio Rancho, will receive the Gerald Boyle Memorial
Graduate Student Award, while Mozumder, a graduate student from Bangladesh,
was selected to receive the J. Raymond Stuart Award. Each student will receive
a cash award made possible by endowments set up through donations for professional
development use and or scholary activities related to their educational experience
at UNM.
The Gerald Boyle Memorial Graduate Student Award will be presented for the
first time this year after becoming endowed recently. The award is made available
to deserving graduate students who are successfully pursuing a course of study
in economics with a concentration in public finance. The award is named in honor
of Gerald Jerry Boyle who was a 1951 UNM graduate. Boyle returned
to UNM in 1968 serving as a Professor of Economics until his retirement in 1987.
The J. Raymond Stuart Award was established in 1994 for deserving economics students in honor of the 1932 UNM graduate of the same name. The award is open to undergraduate and graduate students in the department. In the past, up to five students per year have been recognized with the award.
