SCHLUNTZ APPOINTED TO NATIONAL ARCHITECTURAL ACCREDITING BOARD
Roger L. Schluntz, dean of the University of New Mexico School of Architecture
and Planning, has been appointed to a three-year term on the National Architectural
Accrediting Board (NAAB).
Based in Washington, D.C., the NAAB is the sole agency authorized to accredit
professional architecture degree programs in the United States.
Schluntz was selected for the 13-member board by the Association of Collegiate
Schools of Architecture, where he served as executive director from 1977 - 1980.
Other representatives to NAAB are appointed by the American Institute of Architects,
the American Institute of Architecture Students, and the National Council of
Architectural Registration Boards.
"This will be a challenging assignment. There have always been several different approaches toward professional architecture education in this country. While most of us cherish that diversity in academic programs, we are mindful of the importance of preparing students for the singular and critical role that architects assume in our daily lives and basic well being. This is also a heavily regulated profession and building industry -- our success in meeting the challenges in educating the next generation of architects will very much effect the quality of life that all Americans should enjoy," says Schluntz.
