ANDERSON SCHOOLS ACCOUNTING FACULTY MEMBERS HONORED BY NATIONAL PEERS

Leslie Oakes and Joni Young, two professors in the Accounting Department at The Anderson Schools of Management (ASM) at UNM, have been recognized by their nationwide peers as “highly productive” based on their research publications. The recognition was presented recently at the American Accounting Association’s annual conference.

Oakes was recognized as one of the most prolific publishers from among the nation’s 1998 Ph.D. graduates. Oakes is an associate professor of accounting at the ASM. She has been employed at UNM since 1995 and has severed as the associate dean of the Schools. She is active in the recruitment and retention of minority students. She is currently teaching undergraduate courses including an Introduction to Management and Principles of Financial Accounting.

Young was honored as having both the highest number and quality of publications among the 1991 Ph.D. graduates. Young is currently an associate professor at the ASM, where she has been teaching since 1992. Her research interests include standard setting and financial accounting. She is currently teaching undergraduate courses in Intermediate Financial Accounting.

“I’m not surprised to have other people and organizations realize what we’ve known at the Anderson Schools for some time now,” said Dean Howard L. Smith. “Our people are amazing. I’m proud to represent a school where scholars of this caliber are so easily accessible to undergraduate students.”

Judging was based on quality measured by the reputation and standards of the journal in which the article was published.
