Dear
UNM Teaching Community:
During
the remainder of this semester, many classroom instructors
may be faced with the challenges and opportunities associated
with classroom discussions of the war in Iraq. Some
disciplines may lend themselves to planned discussions
of the war while discussions may occur spontaneously
in other courses.
The
University is a member of the Professional and Organizational
Development Network in Higher Education (POD). That
organization is recommending a website at the University
of Michigan as an excellent source of materials for
faculty regarding class discussions about the war in
Iraq. That website address is http://www.crlt.umich.edu/wariniraqdiscussion.html
(You may have to cut and paste that into your browser
location/address bar.)
POD
also sponsors a listserv for postsecondary faculty development
officers and faculty members. Discussions about guidelines
for faculty regarding the war have been taking place
on the list this month. Subscription information to
that list is available through the CASTL website at
http://www.unm.edu/~castl/
under Links.
Public
Affairs is preparing information for the campus; included
will be the University of Michigan web site and the
excellent document prepared by the UNM FS Undergraduate
Committee after the September 11 tragedy. (That document
was based upon a similar document prepared at the University
of Michigan.)
We
will post additional resources on the CASTL website
as they become available.
Sincerely,
Susan
