FORD MOTOR COMPANY SCHOLARSHIPS AT UNM’S ANDERSON SCHOOLS OF MANAGEMENT ANNOUNCED

The Ford Motor Company announced the 2000-2001 scholarship winners at the University of New Mexico’s Anderson Schools of Management. The scholarship awards are part of Ford’s three-year commitment to the University.

The Ford scholarships are designed to support and encourage minority students in business programs. Undergraduate winners will receive $3,000 scholarships, while graduate student winners will receive $5,000 scholarships. While the names of scholarship winners are not being released, the demographics on the group are available.

Among the undergraduate scholarships, 70 percent were awarded to women, 50 percent to Hispanics, 20 percent of Native Americans, and 10 percent to Asian-Americans. Among graduate scholarships, 62 percent went to women, 50 percent to Hispanics, and 12 percent to Native Americans.

This broad and diverse student support strengthens the commitment that both Ford and UNM have made toward training business leaders from a wide variety of backgrounds. David Reyes, part of the applicant interview team interview team from Ford said, “Ford has a huge stake in building strong business leaders from minority groups...broadening the base of our employee experience can only make us stronger.”

Doris Rhodes, who was instrumental in building the relationship between Ford and The Anderson Schools, explains that “it’s extremely rare for Ford to make this kind of substantial, long-term commitment at a university so far from any of their manufacturing or corporate centers, but UNM has something that Ford wants — a bright, enthusiastic, and diverse student body.
