NWNM Science Fair Special Awards

Friday, March 17th, 2006

As every year the Northwestern New Mexico Regional Science Fair in Albuquerque is looking for volunteer judges. In addition, for the second year in a row your local OSA student chapter is sponsoring several special awards that we need judges for.

The regular judging takes place at UNM's Johnson Center on Friday, March 17th from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm. Special awards judging is from 12:30 pm to 3:45 pm.

It would be great if some of our student chapter members could show their commitment to youth (science) education by volunteering as judges.

If you would like to sign up as a regular judge, please go to:

http://www.unm.edu/~scifair/Judge%20Form.htm

The 'Judge Training Workshops' are optional, even if you are a first time judge. For the judging categories you would probably select from

  1. SPHY Senior Physics
  2. SENG-E Senior Electrical Engineering
  3. JPHY Junior Physics
  4. JENG-E Junior Electrical Engineering

or anything else you feel comfortable with. Judging is not very difficult and does not require any special knowledge. It helps if you have completed an undergraduate education in the respective fields, though. Beyond the rewarding experience of the fair itself, you will be able to enjoy a free breakfast as well. If we find enough OSA members volunteering as judges we might consider sponsoring a (pizza?) lunch.

If you are interested in judging our chapter special awards (we need about four judges), please contact Felix Jaeckel (  ), for more information on the science fair in general, visit their website at http://www.unm.edu/~scifair/.
