Helping New Mexico's Secondary School Students and Teachers

The Institute understands that education is the key to quality of life for future generations. Maintaining and improving upon a high-level of science education ensures that we move forward confidently in a world that continues to redefine what it means to "stay competitive." As society becomes more and more dependent on technology, it's crucial to inspire today's students to view careers in space and nuclear technology as exciting and positive choices.

Each February at the Space Technology and Applications International Forum (STAIF) in Albuquerque, students, teachers and space technology professionals are brought together for a special secondary school session. Included in the program are guest speakers, a teachers' work shop, and the highlight of the Institute's outreach activities, a space design competition open to grades 6-12. STAIF attendees, among them, research scientists, space program directors, astronauts, and educators from around the globe, serve as judges for the competition, offering valuable advice to tomorrow's engineers and space technology innovators.
