PiBBs Focus Groups
The following are PiBBs sponsored focus groups.
Mathematical/Theoretical Ecology Journal Club
A reminder that the Mathematical/Theoretical Ecology Journal Club will
continue to meet this semester and we invite newcomers to join us. We
will have an organizational meeting next Friday (Jan 25) at 11am (room TBA).
This journal club is a discussion group that brings together faculty and
students from the departments of Mathematics & Statistics, Biology and
beyond who have an interest in reading papers that approach ecological
and evolutionary questions from a mathematical perspective. The term
"mathematical/theoretical ecology" is to be interpreted broadly and the
choice of papers is entirely determined by the interests of the group.
We usually meet once every 2 weeks during the semester for at least an hour.
*For students who are interested in participating, there is an option to
register for 1 credit hour.* Undergraduate students should enroll in
either math 439 (section 24) or biol 402 (section 24). Graduate students
should enroll in either math 679 (section 24) or biol 502 (section 24).
If you definitely would like to participate please email Etsuko Nonaka (gmail) (if you haven't already). Etsuko will
email the location of the meeting next week. The main purpose of this meeting will be to decide on a regular time slot and
suggest potential topics for discussion this semester. Also, if you have
papers in mind or recently read papers in math/theoretical ecology that
you think the group should read, then bring them in. If you cannot make
this first meeting, please let Etsuko know you are interested and when
you are available.
