The Director of the AAI is Dorothy Baca, an Associate Professor of Design in the College of Fine Arts Department of Theatre and Dance. She is also a professional costume designer with a thirty-year background in costume design for the film and television industry and has designed and mentored student designers for live dramatic theatre, musical theatre and dance programs. Her academic research is in historical costumes and clothing, specifically Spanish Colonial clothing. Professor Baca has developed curriculum in Chicano/Latina Theatre and is active in many university and national organizations designed to promote Hispanic scholarship and design in the theatre and film arts. Professor Baca is supported by Beverly Ortiz O'Connell, Program Coordinator for the AAI. She coordinates various AAI program initiatives, managing contractual and budget issues for grant projects and institutional operations. She also works with the director to help identify, promote and raise funds for new AAI initiatives.
