La Meta: Mathematics Educators Targeting Achievement

Overview:

The University of New Mexico's Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Education, the Albuquerque Public Schools ( APS ), UNM -Gallup, and the Gallup-McKinley County Schools ( GMCS ) have joined together to form La Meta: Math Educators Targeting Achievement.

La Meta has designed a one-year program of mathematics training, mentoring, and institutional support for in-service middle-grade teachers.

Here is what some of our participants have said about their experience in La Meta:

* I have never been so immersed in any topic before. As the week( s ) progressed I found my mind making connections and having the ah hah moments we hope our students experience.

* I didn't understand functions at all before this class. I now know the basics of functions. This class really pushed my problem solving limits. I think I have more in-depth problem solving skills today.

* The knowledge and skills that I have acquired in 2 intensive weeks is incredible and extremely valuable.
