Carol A. Parker ImageCarol Parker serves as Senior Vice Provost in the UNM Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. Parker's portfolio of administrative duties include academic personnel which entails policy development for, and oversight of faculty recruitment, hiring, contracting, compensation and benefits, and promotion and tenure, in addition to responding to individual faculty and administrator requests for policy implementation, personnel support and guidance. She also provides strategic leadership for special initiatives such as the establishment of an ongoing series of Academic Leadership Workshops for newer department chairs and associate deans, and the Innovation Academy which is the academic component of the InnovateABQ, a collaborative economic development effort led by UNM and the City of Albuquerque. Parker is also a member of the UNM Economic Development Council (EDC), and is currently participating in the Talent and Skill Development Table of Albuquerque’s Living Cities “Innovation Central” Integration Initiative, which seeks to support local job creation and economic mobility.

Parker's higher education administrative experience was enhanced by spending 2012-2013 as a Fellow of the American Council on Education. Her fellowship included an extended placement in the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost at Arizona State University. As an ACE Fellow, she visited more than two dozen colleges, universities, foundations, state agencies and non-profits involved in higher education, and worked on special projects for the UNM Office of the President. As a Fellow she examined a wide range of topics relevant to large public universities engaged in very high levels of research including strategic planning; fundraising; institutional research and predictive analytics; educational innovations such as competency-based education, online degree programs and adaptive learning technology; enrollment management strategies; e-advising systems; the research mission; technology transfer and economic development; diversity; globalization; and athletics.

Parker is a Professor of Law at UNM. Prior to assuming her current role in Academic Affairs, she served as the Law School's Associate Dean for Finance and Administration. She is a recipient of UNM Law’s Keleher & McLeod Professorship in recognition of her teaching, scholarship and service. She is licensed to practice law in Michigan and worked as a research attorney at the Michigan Court of Appeals. Parker received a J.D. degree in law from the Wayne State University Law School. In addition she holds a B.A. degree, cum laude, in humanities (College of Arts and Letters) from Michigan State University’s Honor’s College; and a M.S.I degree in information science (School of Information) from The University of Michigan, Rackham School of Graduate Studies.
