Administrator Biographies: Jeronimo "Jerry" Dominguez

Dr. Jeronimo DominguezVice Provost Emeritus and Branch Campus Liaison

Jerónimo C. Domínguez serves as Vice Provost of Extended University (EU) .  The mission of EU is to collaborate with Main and Branch campus academic units, statewide, to design, develop, and deliver degrees, certificates, and endorsements for New Mexico’s diverse community of learners, thereby ensuring that UNM provides seamless degree completion programs that incorporate appropriate emerging distance education technologies to enhance learning and instruction.  Distance education delivery vehicles employed by Extended University in the exercise of its mission include the internet, interactive television, face-to-face instruction in communities outside Albuquerque, and correspondence. Extended University facilitates solutions for students who cannot attend the UNM Albuquerque campus or who choose to take a course anytime, anyplace.  

Dr. Domínguez has served on a number of state, regional, and national committees and boards to develop policy and to initiate and design education delivery systems.  He has received a number of awards for his activities.  Among these are the "Administrator of the Year" from New Mexico's public school administrators, and the award for excellence in innovative programming from the national University Continuing Education Association (UCEA), Region VI.  He was “pinned” a Quality New Mexico Hero, has been recognized with the Governor’s Distinguished Public Service Award, and is a member of the 2001 Leadership New Mexico class.  Dr. Domínguez was also selected as a fellow in the Minority Serving Institutions Kellogg Leadership Program and is an alumnus of its Class of 2005.

A native of Tucumcari, New Mexico, Dr. Domínguez received his Bachelors degree in Speech Pathology and Psychology from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales and, at the University of New Mexico, a Masters  in Communication Disorders and a PhD in Special Education.

Over the course of his career Dr. Domínguez has influenced the lives of over 100,000 New Mexico citizens; his leadership has brought the University of New Mexico to them in their home communities.

Dr. Domínguez is married to Dr. Meave StevensDomínguez and is the father of two young men, Jared and Jalen. An avid sportsman, he has coached several youth teams, and loves running, golfing, and all outdoor sports. He is an enthusiastic supporter of Lobo Athletics.
