Mission
The mission of the Office of the Associate Provost for International Initiatives is to coordinate, disseminate and support knowledge about the global community to UNM’s students and faculty, as well as work with the community to promote this knowledge.  The Office and its staff are dedicated to creating comprehensive programs of internationalization that build on the strengths of UNM’s history and location.  It is dedicated to identifying and developing robust, multi-faceted international partnerships that will contribute to UNM’s overall mission of providing the best teaching, research and service opportunities and outcomes for its students and faculty.

Professor Natasha Kolchevska received her BA in Russian from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana and her MA and PhD in Slavic Languages and Literatures from the University of California, Berkeley.  At UNM, she has been a faculty member, Director of the Feminist Research Institute, and most recently Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.  A scholar of 19th and 20th century Russian literature, culture and society, she has written, edited and translated numerous publications addressing teaching as well as cultural topics.  In addition to her scholarly work, Dr. Kolchevska has been the recipient of NEH, Fulbright and Startalk grants that have advanced the teaching of critical languages such as Russian, Chinese and Arabic at UNM.  Promoting international education and collaboration has been at the heart of her service as the President of the Association of Women in Slavic Studies and her service on various national and international professional organizations.  In 2010, she was honored for her community service with the Open World Leadership project, a U. S. congressional initiative that develops networks of leaders from Eurasia by introducing them to American society and government.   She began serving as AP for International Affairs in the summer of 2011.
