The LAII (http://laii.unm.edu/) was created to coordinate the numerous Latin American academic and research programs and was designated an Education National Resource Center by the U. S. Dept. of Education. The LAII awards student fellowships and provides funds for faculty and curricular development, as well as identifying and assisting with student exchanges and faculty-led initiatives through the Latin American and Iberian regions. In addition to creating opportunities for faculty-led field courses, it also coordinates student-oriented intensive language immersion programs and exchanges. Through its partnership with the College of Arts & Sciences, the LAII grants interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate degrees in Latin American Studies, and through partnerships with UNM’s professional schools, it offers dual degrees in five professional programs: Business Administration, Community & Regional Planning, Education, Law and Public Health. The LAII also coordinates a robust series of community outreach and education programs and provides an array of media resources to the university and broader communities.
