Vice President for Research Dr. Fulghum is the Vice President for Research & Economic Development and a Professor of Chemical and Nuclear Engineering at the University of New Mexico (UNM). From 1989 to 2002 she was a member of the faculty in the Department of Chemistry at Kent State University (KSU), serving as an Honors College faculty member during her last two years. She joined UNM in 2002 as a professor and chair of the Department of Chemical and Nuclear Engineering. In May 2008, she was appointed Interim Vice President for Research & Economic Development at UNM. She held this post until her appointment as vice president in December of that year.
Dr. Fulghum serves on the board of directors of UNM’s science and technology transfer corporation, STC.UNM, as chair of the Board of the New Mexico Consortium and on the board of the New Mexico Computer Applications Center. In the past, she has held numerous leadership positions in the American Vacuum Society (AVS), including her current role as a member of the board of trustees. In 2008, the AVS named her a Fellow of the Society in recognition of her research accomplishments and professional service. She has also served as a director on the Governing Board of the Council for Chemical Research. She was honored in September 2010 by New Mexico Business Weekly for her efforts to “…bring money, influence, and resources to New Mexico.”
Dr. Fulghum received her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry with highest honors from the University of North Carolina, her Master of Science degree in analytical chemistry from Cornell University and her Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from the University of North Carolina.
