How to Move Around on the World Wide Web
You will notice that on the right side of the computer screen, there is a side bar that has a small arrow (actually it looks more like a "v"),one pointing up and one pointing down. If you want to move up, you can use the mouse to move into this side bar. If you put the cursor on the small "v" like arrows and click, the page will move up or down line by line. In between, there is a small sliding rectangle that tracks where you are in the document. If you want to move faster, you can place the cursor on the rectangle and drag it up or down and, thus, move up and down the page quickly.
It's good to remember that if you get to a page that cannot be displayed or if you want to go back to a previous page, you can look to the top right of the computer screen and see a button called "back." If you click the "back" button, you will go back to the previous page. You can click the back button repeatedly to go back through many of the pages that you saw. The back button will take you sequentially through the pages that you linked to. For example, if you click the mouse on the back button at the top left of this screen, you will go back to the Student Success Homepage where you made the link to get to this page. If you are new to the web, you will probably notice that certain words stand out because they appear in a different color. If you roll the pointer over one of these words, the pointer will turn into a hand. When this occurs, you have just found a "link." If you click the left side of the "mouse," the computer will "link" to a new page. Sometimes this happens immediately; sometimes the process takes awhile. On the bottom of the screen, you will see information about the computer's progress in making the link. (People often say that the new document that you are linking to is "loading." ) Sometimes a network error occurs and the page cannot be displayed.
