Belinda Deneen Wallace is currently a Visiting Lecturer and formerly a Postdoctoral Research Scholar (2007-2009) at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Wallace teaches courses in 19th and 20th Century African American literature; 20th Century African Poetry; Postcolonial Studies; Media Studies, and Gender and Women's Studies.

Dr. Wallace's primary area of teaching, however, is in the field of Caribbean Studies, where she teaches courses such as Caribbean Women's Literature, Caribbean People and Cultures, Caribbean Feminist Thought and Introduction to Caribbean Cinema. Dr. Wallace's emphasis on the Caribbean may also be found in her research, which works in concert with her teaching.

Dr. Wallace's research examines how fictional, black female bodies may be interpreted as 'texts' that convey gendered Caribbean histories and identities. This research has lead to forthcoming publications on Caribbean women's literature. Additionally, she is a founding member of the Caribbean Research Interest Group (CRIG) an activist and scholar organization dedicated to studying the literatures, languages and cultures of the Caribbean. Dr. Wallace is currently working on a book manuscript about Caribbean children's games.
