Don Burke (ubernerd@bigfoot.com),
a leading patient advocate for facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD)
and founding member of the FSH Society, has met with AMRI Director Professor
Mohsen Shahinpoor to start a dialog to examine and enhance research and
development aimed towards developing muscular systems for FSH muscular
dystrophy. Professor Mohsen Shahinpoor and FSH Society, Inc. President
and CEO, Daniel Paul Perez (daniel.perez@fshsociety.org)
have begun to examine in concert with the advice and input of the prestigious
FSH Society, Inc. Scientific Advisory Board possible applications of artificial
muscle in the treatment of FSHD.
Dan Perez has agreed to contact the Scientific Advisory Board and the
FSH society officers Dr. Stephen J. Jacobsen, Carol
A. Perez, Executive Director, Dr. William Lewis and Karen L. Johnsen
for guidance for our future collaboration.
