Financial Aid

Financial assistance is available through a number of sources. The department does offer a limited number of assistantships (GA, TA, RA), which offers a monthly stipend and a tuition waiver of six credit hours. The UNM Office of Graduate Studies also offers a variety of fellowships and Scholarships. Students are also encouraged to apply for federal financial aid.

Once admitted to UNM, students are encouraged to search for funding resources through the Midas Database. This is an online service which allows the University community to search a wide variety of databases for funding information and opportunities including grants, contracts, fellowships and sponsored support. Users can also access and search relevant funding publications via Midas.

The department has a limited number of graduate and teaching assistantships to offer graduate students. These assistantships are generally available after the first semester in the graduate program, though some awards are made to incoming students each year. Assistantships are dependent on departmental need. Appointments are usually .25 FTE (10 hrs per wk), with a tuition waiver of six credit hours and a monthly stipend. Appointments are made on a semester basis. Normally, the TA/GA applications are due by March 30th for the Fall semester.
