The
former D. H. Lawrence Ranch Summer Art Projects
were created in 1981 to help enhance original and
creative approaches to teaching and making art directly
related to this special Northern New Mexico mountain
and canyon environment.
Over the years, various Arts faculty have formulated
experimental approaches to this workshop. This is
an intense concentrated workshop experience that
occurs from early morning to late evening sessions
throughout a 17-day period. |

Students
working together in this unique situation benefit
in ways that are unavailable in traditional class
format. When artists and scholars exit their traditional
urban environment, nature based formats become crucial
to forming deeper and more encompassing thresholds
of awareness. The professors and students involved
benefit from fresh developments in this field study
format and thus bring exciting new and experimental
approaches to their regular semester's teaching
and studio directions. Participants of this workshop
often go on to become our most accomplished graduate
and honors students.
