The College of Arts and Sciences is the heart of the University. Our mission is to create new knowledge in the arts and sciences, to disseminate that knowledge to our students as we create it, and to apply that knowledge to the pressing issues of the day, at local, state and international sites. 

The mission of the Development Office is to encourage private philanthropy to support the educational and research mission of the College. With less than 17% of the College’s operating budget coming from the State of New Mexico, gifts from our alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations make a tremendous difference to all aspects of the College.

IRA Rollover Provision

Because of the $700 billion federal bailout package, the IRA rollover provision originally set to expire last year was extended to Dec. 31, 2009. The provision allows individuals 70.5 years of age or older to make a tax-free distribution of up to $100,000 from an IRA to a charity.
