GRONK
Los Angeles

GRONK is widely known for a thought provoking body of expressionistic work, which includes painting, performance, photography, video and installations. He has shown at the Los Angeles County Museum, The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and the National Hispanic Cultural Center, to name a few. He has done set design for the Los Angeles Opera. GRONK is probably best known for his large scale, on-site mural pieces that he paints in front of an audience. The process of painting the mural therefore becomes a performance where the audience gets to watch the process involved in its creation.

For his residency at the ATC, Fall 2002, GRONK has worked with animation faculty and students as well as the Albuquerque High Performance Computing Center to create a short, digital animation for the LodeStar Astronomy Center and Domed Planetarium.

For a detailed description of GRONK's residency, please see ATC's Fall 2002 Newsletter.

LodeStar, and like theaters, are authentic immersive environments, as both image and sound extend beyond the cognitive plane. It includes a 55-foot diameter hemispheric domed screen; a full-dome, high-resolution digital video projection system; and a Dolby 5.1 audio system. The SkyVision™ full-dome video system uses a mosaic of six synchronized video projectors to create seamless, high-resolution digital video imagery to cover the 4,750 square-foot domed screen which fills audiences' entire field of vision-creating digitally based IMAX™-like experiences. For more information on the LodeStar, please visit their website or contact ATC.
