Local Government Support for Public Transportation

Contact:  ATRI

The ATR Institute has expanded its expertise to assisting local governments in the State in public transportation planning. As the need for alternative transportation systems grows, so does the interest by local governments to plan and adopt new services for home-to-work, recreation, and tourism. Los Alamos County contracted with the ATR Institute to study the feasibility of moving the current transit system under the auspices of the County and expanding the level of service to Española and surrounding communities. The "Enchanted Circle" public transportation study was commissioned by the New Mexico Economic Development Department and the New Mexico Public Transportation Programs Bureau to plan for a transit connection between four counties and the towns of Taos, Angel Fire, Red River, Mora, Cimarron, and Las Vegas. Results will assist in obtaining new funding for tourism and employment opportunities.
