1/ School enrollment data for 1990 and 2000 are not fully comparable because of
changes in how level-of-enrollment data were obtained.
2/ Marital status data for 1990 are 100% data. Marital status data for 2000 are based
on sample data from the 2000 long-form questionnaire.
3/ Disability data for 1990 and 2000 are not comparable because of changes in the
      census questions on disability.
4/ "Residence 5 years prior to the census" refers to 1995 for the 2000 census and
1985 for the 1990 census. For example, the interpretation of the "same house"
category is as follows: These are respondents in the 2000 census that lived in
their current house of residence in 1995 and these are respondents in 1990 that
lived in their current house of residence in 1985.
5/ Elsewhere refers to Puerto Rico, U.S. island (outlying) areas, and a foreign
      country or at sea.
6/ "Entered during previous 10 years" refers to "entered 1990 to March 2000" for the
2000 census and "entered 1980 to March 1990" for the 1990 census.
7/ In 1990 (in contrast to 2000), nonresponse regarding country or region of birth
was not allocated. Therefore, the 1990 total in the "region of birth of foreign
born" section is less than the foreign born population appearing in the "nativity
and place of birth" section by the number of persons that did not report a region
or country. Because of this difference in allocation procedure, the percent
changes from 1990 to 2000 in the foreign-born population by region of birth
      were not calculated.
8/ Oceania refers to Australia, New Zealand and various South Pacific islands that
      are not U.S. island areas.
9/ Latin America refers to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America.
10/ North America refers to Canada, Bermuda, Greenland, and St. Pierre & Miquelon.
11/ Although not shown separately, Native American languages are included in the
aggregate "language other than English" category.
12/ The ancestry question allowed respondents to report one or more ancestry groups,
although only the first two were coded. The "total ancestries reported" category
is an estimate of the number of single ancestries and multiple ancestries reported.
"Ancestries reported" is larger than the total population because individuals that
reported multiple ancestries are double counted, e.g., a person that identified as
English and German would be counted in both the English and German ancestry
      categories.
