1/ Percent changes are based on unrounded numbers.
2/ In 1980 and 1990, various "Asian and Pacific Islander" subgroups were
listed on the census questionnaires. Asian or Pacific Islander persons
who did not identify themselves as belonging to any of the listed sub-
groups wrote in their responses. In 1980, write-in responses were
recorded in a space reserved for "Other races", while in 1990 this space
was reserved for either "Other races" or "Other Asians or Pacific Islanders".
In 1990, these "Other Asians or Pacific Islanders" were tabulated as part
of the "Asian or Pacific Islander" category during processing of responses
to questions asked on a 100% basis. However, in 1980, during the 100%
processing operation, the "Other Asians or Pacific Islanders" were added
instead to the "Other races" category. In 1980, "Other Asians or Pacific
Islanders" were later reclassified, removed from the "Other races" category,
and added to the "Asian or Pacific Islander" category when sample data were
processed. Therefore, the 100% tabulations for the "Asian or Pacific
Islander" and "Other races" categories are not strictly comparable between
1980 and 1990. Since the figures are not comparable, percent changes between
1980 and 1990 are not calculated in the population and housing summary tables
for the "Other races" and "Asian or Pacific Islander" categories.
3/ Persons of Hispanic Origin may be of any race. Therefore, double counting
occurs if Hispanic persons are added to total population counts by race.
4/ The "Total Minority" category consists of all those persons who did not
classify themselves as non-Hispanic White. In other words, the "Total
Minority" group includes all "non-Anglos".
Note: The 1980 total population figures shown in these tables are unrevised.
The Census Bureau revised the total population counts during the 1980s. However,
characteristics, such as age, sex, race, etc. were not revised. Therefore, to
maintain comparability the unrevised population figures are presented with unrevised
characteristics.
