copyright law (U.S. Copyright Act of 1976, 90 Stat 2541).
• When acquiring and providing images, the library follows the
Image Collection Guidelines of the Visual Resources Association.
The University of New Mexico copyright guidelines: • Research & Intellectual Property Legal Services - a division of the University Counsel Office - Documents include UNM's official Intellectual Property Policy, Fair Use guidelines, sample forms and FAQs. If you are interested in general copyright regulations and information about using images lawfully, the following four sites offer excellent starting points: • Copyright & Art Issues - compiled by Christine L. Sundt - A site with links to documents, policies, guidelines, papers, and opinions regarding copyright and fair use with special emphasis in fine arts and digita images. • Intellectual Property Rights - compiled by the VRA Ad Hoc Committee Intellectual Property Rights - A site with links to guidelines, position statements, reports, compilations, and other resources regarding copyright, intellectual property rights, and fair use. • The Copyright Education Program - offered by the American Library Association's Office for Information Technology Policy - A program to help librarians gain expertise and confidence in dealing with copyright issues. • Copyown - created by Rodney Jay Peterson, Director of Policy and Planning for the University of Maryland - A website on current and emerging copyright conflicts and issues for institutions of higher learning. On view are the copyright policies of many academic institutions in the United States.
