Women:Marital Status, Educational Attainment, and Political Affiliation and their Effects on Attitudes Towards Women's Roles

In recent decades, the role of women in society has changed a great deal. Stereotypes of men and women in popular culture, as shown in movies and television shows of the 1950s and 1960s, now seem sexist. The ideal of the man as husband, father, and breadwinner, with the woman as wife, mother, and stay-at-home mom have shifted as most women, even most mothers of young children, have entered the work force. For the first time in U.S. history, there are now more unmarried women (single, widowed, and divorced) than married women.
