Faculty Nomination:
The nomination process is simple. BSE accepts faculty nominations from any UNM faculty member. A nomination consists of several sentences (or more) regarding the nominated piece’s merits, purpose, and any other information the nominating faculty member considers pertinent. Each BSE submission form contains space at the bottom for the faculty nomination. The submission form is complete once this section has been filled out.

Turning In Your Submission:
Please return completed submission forms, faculty nominations, CDs, and submissions to Best Student Essays, Marron Hall Room 107. Authors can also email essay submissions to bse@unm.edu as Microsoft Word attachments, only if the corresponding submission forms and faculty nominations have also been hand-delivered to Marron Hall Room 107. Photography and art submissions may not be emailed.

Awards Policy
BSE gives out cash awards to the authors of first, second, and third place essays in each issue. Award decisions are made by a committee consisting of the BSE editor and the editorial staff. Each essay is judged through a blind-jury rating process. Awards go to those essays receiving the highest total points in different evaluation categories, including clarity of authorial intent, originality, and support of argument. Award recipients are announced each semester at the BSE reception.
