"Retiring Well"

  • Description: Join Dr. Steve Rugala, Director of the UNM Counseling Assistance & Referral Services, for an introduction to the emotional and relational aspects of retirement. A fulfilling retirement is an opportunity for growth and adventure. This noontime seminar will focus upon gracefully navigating this important transition.

  • Date/Time/Place: Monday September 8th, 2008 - 12:00 to 1:00pm - Student Union Building Trail/Spirit Meeting Room

  • "Relaxation Techniques"

  • Description: Research has shown that regular use of relaxation techniques decreases stress and anxiety, improves our health, and increases our tolerance for pain. This one hour experiential class will teach a variety of relaxation exercises such as mediation, visualization and progressive muscle relaxation. Handouts on techniques will be provided.

  • Date/Time/Place: Tuesday September 9th, 2008 - 12:00 to 1:00pm - Student Union Building Trail/Spirit Meeting Room

  • "Maintaining Self-confidence and Resilience During Times of Change"

  • Description: Often when faced with changes over which we have no control, our self-esteem and natural self-confidence can suffer a blow. In this workshop participants will look at the process of change, ways to cope that strengthen self-esteem and promote emotional resilience, and how we can be better prepared for inevitable changes in the future.

  • Date/Time/Place: Wednesday September 10th, 2008 - 12:00 to 1:00pm - Student Union Building Trail/Spirit Meeting Room

  • "Using Art to Reduce Stress"

  • Description: Do you want to learn relaxation techniques? Maybe you want to learn how to express yourself using art and writing. In this Expressive Art Brown Bag you will learn to relax by using art and writing to talk about yourself and your life experiences. Expressive Art helps to release the negative energy that can block your body's ability to heal physically, emotionally, and spiritually. This Brown Bag is not about being an artist! It's about expressing yourself through art. Prior experience is not necessary. Basic materials will be provided.
