What is UNIV 216?
UNIV
216 is a one-credit, graded seminar for lower-division students
designed to open students' awareness to specific careers. Taught by
professionals from the community, the seminars introduce students to
the opportunities, challenges, and latest developments in specific
career clusters.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: By interviewing professionals,
visiting job sites, and examining their own passions and skills as they
relate to this field, students will discover whether the chosen
discipline is for them, which specific career within the discipline is
the best fit, and what they need to do to pursue this path.
Why should students take UNIV 216 Seminars?
Ever wonder why you are in college, and what you want to do for a living when you get out? This course will help you target your college career, decide on a major, and plan any additional steps you need to take to turn your passions into a career! It will also give you an opportunity to explore the world of different careers through the stories and first hand experiences of people who are in the trenches of the work world every day. Professionals from the community give students the opportunity to engage in honest conversations about their professions. You may find out about new skills and passions you did not know you had, you may find out that the job you always wanted is not a good fit for you, or you may become affirmed in your present career goals and benefit from future professional connections.
