For the Small files to transfer (less than 100Mb), you have a zip drive.

If you have BIG HUGE Files (more than 100Mb) to transfer from Home to the Lab and reverse, we can transfer the files for you thanks to one machine equipped with a CD burner.

If you want to store some data on a CD, we can burn you a CD(s) as long as you bring your CDs.

When I start my box, how can I get Windows NT?

When you are under DOS (black screen), you will have “Microsoft Windows NT 4.0:” written.

At this point, you have two options during the countdown:

*   In order to boot on NT Session, type return.It will stop the countdown

* you do not need to select Microsoft Windows NT 4.0(VGA)

How do I log on to the NT Session?

You have to hit Ctrl + Alt + Delete. You will have a new screen at that moment. Type in your Login, Password.

N.B.: You have to use the same login name and password that you have for your E-mail or UNIX –Account.

What kind of software is available on my NT Box?

Well, you have:

  1. Office 97 or MS Office2000
  2. Teraterm /Secure Shell (optionnal)
  3. Mirada:  Mulberry, aix…
  4. WinZip 8.0 (part of Mirada Suite)
  5. Ftp Explorer or WSFTP light (part of Mirada Suite)
  6. Netscape 4.73
  7. Explorer 5.0
  8. Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0
  9. Norton Antivirus 5.0 or 6.0 (Not Yet available for the pc with site license)
  10. QuickTime 3.0/4.0 (optional not installed)
  11. Real player G2
  12. Win amp (Reader for mp3 music format)

Where can I print from my “NT” Box?

From NT or Windows 95/98 it is the same process. You can use the network printer without any problem

How do I request additional software on my “NT” box for my personal use?

You will need to fill out a ”Help Request Form”; give the location of your ”NT” box number, the software you request and for what purpose it is needed.

How can I secure my machine?

The policy is the following:

Each time you leave alone your “NT” machine, you MUST lock your machine!!!  

In order to lock your machine,

            Hit Ctrl +Alt +Delete, you will then have a new screen where you have to hit “Lock Workstation” button.

           

To unlock your machine,

           

Hit Ctrl +Alt +Delete; type your password and return.

How can I know what kind of tasks are running on my machine?

Hit Ctrl +Alt +Delete, you will then have a new screen where you have to hit “Task Manager” button.

              

 

It shows you the APPS running

It shows you the process running

It shows you CPU usage & memory used

        

Thus you can know which apps are running (or not responding), the processes and also the performance of your machine.

How do I reboot my machine?

You have to hit “Shut Down” button on the start menu, you will then have a new screen:

           

Then, click on “Restart the computer” button, hit “Yes” or return.

How do I log out as a different user?

You have to hit “Shut Down” button on the start menu, you will then have a new screen:

            

Then, click “Close all programs and log on as a different user” button, hit “Yes” or return.

PLEASE WAIT UNTIL IT IS TOTALLY SHUT DOWN, REMEMBER THAT NT HAS A SIMILAR OPERATING SYSTEM AS UNIX, SO YOU CANNOT TURN IT OFF LIKE WIN 95 OR WIN 98!!!!!

Can I upload /download from LINUX to NT and reverse?

On NT, FTP Explorer allows you to upload / download anything you want from 95/98& NT to UNIX / UNIX to 95/98&NT, (LINUX or AIX belong to the CIRT where you have your web page if you created one)

N.B.:    To transfer files:

            Don’t forget “chmod ”for your folder and also your files if you want your work be seen by your colleagues or guests.

How Can I check my E-MAIL?

You can check your E-mail from Netscape

Or

You can check your E-mail from NT thanks to Secure Shell (not Installed, waiting for the new version MIRADA)

           

N.B.:  WE STRONGLY SUGGEST PEOPLE TO USE Secure Shell and ALWAYS CLICK on SSH instead of Telnet (Telnet IS NOT A SECURE COMMUNICATION!!!)

How can I use the ZIP Drive?

Under NT it is like an extra drive and it is auto detected by NT

N.B.:  The floppy or ZIP have to be formatted in FAT16 to be readable for both operating systems NT& WINDOWS 95/98
