LiDAR
LIDAR is an acronym for Light Detection and Ranging. LIDAR mapping is based on a laser scanner that emits pulses of light. The scanner measures the time of pulse return to calculate distance. Millions of XYZ coordinates can be collected very quickly and used to create 2D and 3D models. Our work at Chaco is a collaborative effort with the University of New Mexico LIDAR Laboratory in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences and is funded by the UNM Resource Allocations Committtee and Western National Parks Association.
