PUBLIC SCHOLARSHIP:

  •  Lobo Gardens. Centrally engaged via teaching, service, and action in collaborative student, staff, and faculty movement to create community food gardens on campus and in the urban environment. In Summer 2010 taught class that created first two community gardens on campus. 2010-present. See the Lobo Gardens website.
  •  Featured in public radio series on teaching and learning sustainability. Aired on New Mexico NPR-affiliate KUNM 89.9 during All Things Considered slot. Albuquerque, NM. March 29, 30, and 31, 2010. To listen, please go to the link at the top of my home page.
  •  Connecting Community Voices. Principal Investigator in Hispanic-community focused study in collaboration with nonprofit community organizations, including Conservation Voters of New Mexico, The Wilderness Society, and Arts of Aztlan, as well as the UNM Resource Center for Raza Planning in the School of Architecture and Planning. Project aimed at identifying New Mexico Hispanic environmental meaning systems in effort to highlight connections to land, water, and one another and to help communities shape sustainable ecocultural policy and politics. Groundbreaking, highly applied participatory action project. Frontpage media coverage in bilingual newspaper Mas New Mexico in January 2009. 2008-present. Board member of nonprofit that emerged from this community-based participatory action research project. 2010-present.
  •  Faculty organizer and consultant: Hablamos!, annual event of La Semilla Institute, which partners with UNM to engage local schools in environmental research projects in efforts to collaboratively build community, innovative approaches to the environment, and cross-cultural and intergenerational awareness. (Co-Faculty consultant with Professor Mary Jane Collier, 2007-2008). 2007-2009.
