C&J celebrates
construction carnival
 |
Provost
Reed W. Dasenbrock addresses the crowd as C&J Chair John
G. Oetzel waits to speak next. |
 |
Dr.
Vera Norwood, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences,
was among the speakers. Seated are Peggyann Huchinson
of Medford, Ore. (a member of the first communnication
graduating class in 1950), and Jennifer L. Riordan, a
1999 graduate and now vice president of public and community
relations for Citi Cards. Riordan was the event's emcee. |
The construction carnival marking the start
of the remodeling of the C&J building was held April 21,
2006. Lots of folks took the chance for visiting, food and even
cotton candy.
 |
The
adults wore regular ties, but little Spencer Oetzel sported
a bow tie. All of the ties were hand-made by Professor
Karen Foss for
the event with the help of some other faculty members. |
 |
Enjoying
the cotton candy are graduate students Judith Stauber
of C&J (left) and Ilanit Tal of psychology. Volunteering
to spin the cotton candy is C&J graduate student
Matt Petrunia. |

by volunteer Soumia Dhar, an intercultural Ph.D. student
at C&J. |
Some work was done in April, and construction
will continue even while the building is in use until the scheduled
completion date of 2007. When the renovation is complete, the
C&J department will have an additional 12,000 square feet
of space.

Though
the second floor layout will remain similar to the present
with faculty offices and classrooms, this architect's
drawing shows the major renovation of new and existing
space on the ground floor. For a larger view to see details
