Research:

I am interested in the impact that visual communication/presentation designed and produced by different areas of the media, including print and advertising, has on our society and culture. I also have been studying the significant role typography plays in visual communication/presentation.

Sample Publications:

  • "La Bella on Park," branding of a new ABQ business, including logo, business card and collateral design, art director & designer, Jersey Girl Designs, May 2006

  • "C&J Departmental Logo," art director & designer, UNM Communication & Journalism Department, December 2005

  • "The Spirit of Wellness," art director & designer, Albuquerque Journal/Sage, August 2004

  • "Hot Days of History," art director & designer, Albuquerque Journal/Trends, August 2004

  • "Art and Technology," graphic designer & production editor, Museum of Art & Archaeology, University of Missouri, Fall 2003

  • "Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art," graphic designer, Museum of Art & Archaeology, University of Missouri, Fall 2003

Methods: Using empirical and qualitative methods to focus on the impact of visuals in the media.

Authors: Mario Garcia, Tim Harrower, Theodore Conover, Nora Roberts, Sandra Brown, Erma Bombeck, Christiane Northrup, Mark Twain and Mario Puzo.

Teaching Style: Talk, talk, talk — I actively encourage student participation in discussions and class lectures. My goal is to provide students with the theories, strategies and skills needed to be successful in their media careers. Special emphasis is placed on visual presentation, the creative process and teamwork.

Favorite classes: Advertising Copywriting, Desktop Publishing, Visual Communication, PR Campaigns and Introduction to Mass Media, basically any and all classes that deal with visual presentation, creativity and design.

Why UNM?: Living in the Southwest has always been a dream for me and my husband. The opportunity to teach at UNM in the Communication & Journalism Department is not only an honor but a joy as well. I was drawn to the department's exceptional academic environment and the cultural diversity offered by the university and Albuquerque. Teaching students at UNM is a great gig.

Spare Time: Hiking and exploring the Southwest, cooking, running, reading, listening to music, learning to play guitar and soaking up the sun with my cat.
