In memory of C&J graduate student
Tatjana Rosev
May 1, 1965 - Nov. 7, 2011
C&J community members express our deep sorrow about the Nov. 7 passing of Ph.D. student
Tatjana Kommander Rosev, 46.
Tatjana, a native of Germany, received her first graduate degree in law from Bonn University
and specialized in criminal law, later legally assisting foreign visitors to Germany in German,
English, French, Italian and Dutch and, relocating to Italy, working for a legal firm and a
multinational corporation specializing in law specific to the European Union.
Tatjana received her B.A. cum laude from the University of New Mexico in 2006,
double-majoring in mass communication/journalism and sociology. As a C&J M.A. student, she taught
public speaking and Freshman Learning Community and was named “Outstanding Master’s Student 2007”
and class valedictorian.
Tatjana focused on intercultural communication; her M.A. thesis examined
the acculturation strategies of globalized elites. She was also interested in organizational
communication because of her full-time work at Los Alamos National Laboratory and, as a Ph.D. student,
had begun to focus on environmental and animal-human communication as a scholar and advocate.
In her spare time, she was a wildland firefighter, musher, artist, biker, and docent of
New Mexico history.
Tatjana was a joyful colleague and will be dearly missed.
Please consider honoring Tatjana by making a gift in
her memory to
UNM C&J Graduate Student Support.
