New Mexico Civic Engagement Partnership
NMCEP Strategic Vision
To better link high school-age community service to school reform and community building, CLPS manages a unique partnership with the New Mexico Community Foundation, the McCune Charitable Trust, the Daniels Fund (New Mexico’s three largest foundations) and the Pew Charitable Trusts.
The New Mexico Civic Engagement Initiative (NMCEI) promotes increased civic involvement among high school aged youngsters. Twenty-five (25) geographically dispersed high schools rural, tribal, urban, charter and alternative- have been selected to form leadership teams to assess the current state of civic involvement in their schools and communities. Applying such community building approaches as civic mapping, priority and agenda setting, and local planning, seven community coaches with a broad range of activist experience in working with schools and community issues are assisting the schools and communities to develop more extensive civic action plans.
The New Mexico Civic Engagement will be expanding its efforts to build local youth/adult partnership to insure young people have greater opportunities to participate in community problem solving, voice their concerns, advocate for policy and programmatic changes, and develop their leadership and organizing skills.
