The CMEM owns or has access to highly specialized research facilities in addition to the usual facilities and equipment found in a major scientific and
engineering university.Center laboratories provide state-of-the-art facilities for the generation and characterization of powders, mesoporous materials,
nanomaterials, thin films and coatings.
The major facilities for materials characterization feature small angle X-ray scattering powder and thin film X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy,
transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, secondary ionization mass spectrometry and high temperature thermal analysis. The Center
also provides a complete particle characterization laboratory and a catalyst research laboratory. The Advanced Materials Laboratory plays a major role in the
Center’s research program. The AML, a 45,000 square feet research laboratory jointly sponsored by UNM and Sandia National Laboratories, provides Center
researchers additional leading edge facilities for materials synthesis, processing and characterization.
