Catalysis Lab at cmem-unm

The catalysis group is led by Abhaya K. Datye, Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering and Director of CMEM. Current research in our group includes the following:

  • Understanding the nature of the active sites in bimetallic catalysts used for the steam reforming of alcohols, specifically methanol
  • Investigating the phenomena that lead to sintering of metal nanoparticles and loss of metal surface area
  • Synthesis of nano structured catalysts
  • Developed novel approaches for the study of catalysts via electron microscopy
  • Engineering of catalysts for improved hydrothermal stability during conversion of biomass derived reactants
