The directors of CONEXIONES 2008 have extensive experience teaching on Latin American topics and leading summer international programs. Professor Margo Chávez-Charles teaches interdisciplinary courses in the University Honors Program at UNM and has also taught Spanish at the Santa Fe Community College. She has served as a co-coordinator for both the CONEXIONES Mexico and Spain programs. Dr. Ronda Brulotte is a cultural anthropologist who conducts research in Mexico and teaches in the University Honors Program and the Department of Anthropology at UNM. The CONEXIONES staff will be rounded out with Mexican professors and/or UNM instructors. The CONEXIONES 2008 staff will bring their talents and experience to a unique and dynamic program.
The key to the dynamism and reputation of the CONEXIONES approach is integration. CONEXIONES fuses language study with cultural exploration. A unique feature of CONEXIONES is culture shock training that helps students to understand culture shock as a positive (if sometimes uncomfortable) experience. The program is open to all applicants. Prior participation in the University Honors Program is not required.
