Alcazarejo de los Altamirano

The Alcazarejo was the home of Fernán Ruiz de Altamirano, who was named the first gaurd of the fortress in the 13th century, as a reward for guiding the troops from Castile in 1232. The Alcazarejo was built upon the roughest terrain in the town, where rocks dominated the landscape. It is the highest building after the Alcázar (Castle). It would have been used to defend the city and to observe everything from Almenas street on down. It has few windows, because of its military function. The main gate, dating from the 16th century, is situated between two leveled towers. It is decorated with ten circles, the emblem of the Altamirano family.
