Casa de Chavez-Calderon

(Picture Not Avaliable)

This house, built inside the muralla during the Middle Ages, was modified and reconstructed during the XVI century. The house is a wonderful example of the expansion of wealth that occurred in Trujillo during this time period because of its unique architecture. The unique design is that of the balcony as well as the door underneath, are built on the corner of the house. This design, a corner balcony, was extremely difficult to accomplish, there are only seven in all of Trujillo. Only the wealthiest families built so extravagantly. The feat of both a corner door and balcony, however, is only visible on this building. So unique is this design, the cornered balcony and door were placed on a rare fifty peseta coin in order to commemorate it. (Bissell, page 10)
