Palacio-Convento de los Duques de San Carlos

This palace, named after the lineage, the Duchy of Saint Carlos, was built on the remains of a 16th century home and was finished during the 17th century. This palace is a beautiful building complete with corner balcony and a plateresque façade. Above the corner balcony is the symbol of King Charles the V, that of a two headed eagle which is a sign of camaraderie with the king. Inside the palace is a grand staircase leading to the second and third stories, which is truly a marvel in architecture. It appears to float as it it not supported by the wall. Since1965 the palace has been the home to the Jeronomite sisterhood.(Bissell, page 16)
