Welcome to the exciting world of PC networking. This 12-hour course will discuss microcomputer hardware, file server operating systems, workstation operating systems, cabling systems, security, and backup. Local Area Network (LAN) terminology will be stressed. Emphasis is placed on workstation usage with the most popular operating systems, Windows NT and Novell NetWare. Prerequisite: Beginning Windows 95 (5305), and Power Windows 95 (5306)

This course is designed for the beginning network user who has been designated as network administrator for his/her office. The 24-hour course will cover the basics of users and groups, connecting to the server, sending and receiving messages, recovering and purging files, drive mappings, security, setting up printers and print queues, sending print jobs, login scripts, and menus. The student will use Continuing Educations Novell lab, with each student assigned to a workstation. Novell NetWare 4.1 is currently being used. Prerequisite: Introduction to Computer Networks (5244).

This 24-hour course is a continuation of NetWare I. Topics covered include: contingency planning, system recovery, user education, accounting features, advanced printing techniques, data management, troubleshooting, and network routers. The student will use UNMs network lab, with each student assigned to a workstation. Novell NetWare 4.1 is currently being used. Prerequisite: NetWare I (5245).
