2053 Project Management
Project Management is the recognized career field of the future, and Fortune Magazine has identified it as "Career Number 1." This course will provide a unique opportunity for participants to learn the concepts, techniques, and tools of modern project management which are essential for project success. This course uses the materials of internationally recognized experts in project management; these materials are presented by practicing professional project managers. The course will provide in-depth coverage of the Project Management Institutes (PMIs) internationally recognized A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge and supplements from Dr. Harold Kerzners textbook, Project Management, A Systems Approach to Planning, Scheduling and Controlling, and other leading resources. Computer simulation for managing single and multiple projects will be demonstrated by an in-class project. This course is designed to help prepare participants for the nationally recognized Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Examination administered by PMI. This non-credit course will award successful graduates a Certificate in Project Management from UNM Division of Continuing Education & Community Services. To qualify for this certificate, participants must complete an outside team project and examination.
COURSE CONTENT
The subject areas identified in the Guide will be covered in sufficient detail to provide the participant with a working knowledge of the dynamic field of Project Management. Following are descriptions of these subject areas:

Project Management Information Systems Certificates and Courses
Learn how to integrate project management theory with a computerized project management software program! These three modules will use the Microsoft Project 98 software program to initiate project management planning and execution. The course will present project management theory and integrate it with the practical application of MS Project 98. Case studies and discussion of each project management topic area will be given as detailed in the Project Management Institutes A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge. This text will supplement the use of case studies and hands-on work using MS Project 98 as the Project Management Information System (PMIS).

5561 Project Management Information Systems: Module 1
Topics include Project Management Integration, Scope Management, Project Time Management. Students will use case studies to understand organizational and corporate cultural influence on the project planning process. Students will use MS Project to develop a project plan, incorporate complex relationships between tasks, and communicate results effectively. Prerequisite: Beginning Windows 95 (5305), see page 69.

5562 Project Management Information Systems: Module 2
Topics include Project Human Resource Management, Project Communications Management, Project Quality Management. Students will use case studies to understand organizational and corporate cultural influence on the planning porcess. Students will use MS Project to develop a resource pool and assess overapplications of resources in the project plan, use costing and cost roll-up functions built into the software. Prerequisite: Project Mangement Information Systems: Module 1 (5561).

5563 Project Management Information Systems: Module 3
Topics include Project Communications Management, Project Procurement Management. Students will bring together all the elements of a project plan and evaluate effective communication methodologies using the reporting tools in MS Project. Students will learn to export MS Projects information to other applications on a website. Procurement planning will be discussed. Students will use MS Projects reporting tools to customize tables, filters and use Pivot Tables. Prerequisite: Project Management Information Systems: Module 2 (5562).

By completing both Project Management (2053) and Project Management Information Systems Modules 1-3, (5561, 5562, 5563), you will earn a Project Management and Information Systems Certificate.
