Biography

Ric Richardson, Professor, was formerly Dean and Associate Dean of the School of Architecture and Planning. He has been a member of the CRP faculty since 1984, and was Director of the Community and Regional Planning Program from 1990 to 1994. Ric received an M Arch in Advanced Studies and Master of City Planning from MIT, while his B Arch is from the University of Colorado-Boulder. Ric recently completed a major project mediating negotiations among ranchers, oil and gas executives, federal and state agencies, and local citizens to prepare a consensus-based conservation strategy for a bird species in Southeastern New Mexico. The negotiated agreement is a first of its kind to avoid listing a species as endangered. He is a senior Associate at the Consensus Building Institute, Cambridge, MA, the MIT-Harvard Public Disputes Program at the Harvard Law School, and The Lincoln Institute for Land Policy

Concurrent with his faculty position, Ric maintains a consulting practice with Consensus Builder and was a founder of the Community Zoning Institute and the US West Rural Economic Assistance Link (REAL). His research and consulting are in environmental dispute resolution, community growth and land use planning, and urban design. Ric has received teaching and research awards, been appointed to various university and municipal planning committees, and been invited to speak at numerous public and academic seminars.
